New Zealand Truck Hire
Moving Day Advice
When moving home yourself it's best to carefully plan every aspect of the move to ensure you and any helpers are fully prepared. In addition to arranging your truck hire, there are lots of things to consider when preparing for moving day.
- It's easier to clean your new home before you move in. If you don't have time, consider hiring a cleaning company to do it for you.
- If possible, try to move on a weekday. The roads should be less busy and you'll be able to get hold of utility and service companies etc if there are any problems.
- Moving is exhausting and often requires periods of waiting around, so keep everyone's energy levels up by taking regular short breaks and providing plenty of refreshments. Keep a few energy drinks on hand to give you a boost.
- Keep children occupied by moving a few items into their rooms first and have them unpack some of their boxes. Alternatively, give them jobs to do such as helping put boxes in the right rooms etc.
After the move
- Call your friends and family to let them know you've moved safely.
- Give electrical items a chance to settle and get to room temperature before you operate them.
- Check for any damage as soon as you can as some insurance policies have a specific time period for making a claim.
- It's normal to feel a bit down for a few days after the move due to all the hard work and excitement, and children might feel a bit unsettled for a few days.
- If you feel up to it, throw a housewarming party and invite your new neighbours as well as your friends and family.
- If you've relocated to a new area, visit your local library or check the local newspaper for social events or groups you could join to help make new friends and get involved in the community.
