What are the licence requirements for USave's truck and van hire?

All drivers must be 20 years and over and hold a full licence. 2 – 3 ton trucks (typically 11 – 16m3 capacity) can be driven on a Class 1 car licence providing the gross weight does not excess 4500kg. Outside these criteria a Class 2 (heavy traffic) licence is required.

Does USave charge for additional drivers?

No, there is no charge for additional drivers as we prefer you to have the option to share the driving.

Can USave provide one-way hires?

Yes, we provide one-way truck and van hire between our depots in Christchurch, Auckland and Palmerston North, with a relocation fee payable.

Does USave require any bond to hire a van or truck?

Yes, we either take a signed credit card imprint (no amount processed) or cash bond of NZ$500.00 as security for each truck/van hire.

What is the cost of the Collision Damage Reduction insurance (CDR) option and is it recommended?

We recommend the Collision Damage Reduction option when hiring a van or truck from USave to reduce your insurance excess. The CDR for our Cargo Vans, 10 Seater Minibuses and Trucks is just NZ$15.00 per day and reduces the insurance excess (deductible) liability from NZ$1,500.00 + GST to NZ$500.00 + GST. For our 12 Seater Minibuses, the CDR is NZ$20.00 per day for excess reduced from NZ$2,500 + GST to NZ$1,000 + GST.

Does the hire cost include fuel?

Our hire vans and trucks are provided with a full tank of fuel and must be returned with a full tank.

What type of mechanical breakdown assistance is provided?

USave will provide you with a nationwide toll free number with your van hire for roadside assistance – available 7.00AM – 9.00PM, 7-days a week.

Can we take our rental vehicle on the Interisland ferry services?

Yes, phone 0800 802 802 for reservations. Please note our hire vehicles are insured while on the Inter-island ferry.

What is your cancellation policy?

Our NZ$100.00 booking deposit is non-refundable in the event of cancellation but is transferable to another hire within 12-months if you advise us of your cancellation at least 24 hours before the hire date.

What happens if I need to shorten the rental period?

There are no refunds provided for early returns.

What is the procedure for extending the rental period?

You can call us on our nationwide toll free number (0508 11 22 33) to have an extension authorised, subject to hire van/truck availability.
