All drivers must be 20 years and over and hold a full licence. 2 – 3 ton trucks (typically 11 – 16m³ capacity) can be driven on a Class 1 car licence providing the gross weight does not excess 4500kg. Outside these criteria a Class 2 (heavy traffic) licence is required.

No, there is no charge for additional drivers as we prefer you to have the option to share the driving.

Yes, we provide one-way truck and van hire between our depots in Christchurch, Dunedin, Auckland and Palmerston North, with a relocation fee payable.

Yes, a NZ$500.00 bond is required for all van or truck hires and is refundable on completion of the hire. This may be either a cash deposit or signed credit card voucher (Visa debit cards are accepted and can be used for our bond payment of NZ$500.00). All 12-seat minibus hires require a credit card for our security bond. In the case of a cash or Visa Debit bond full insurance is mandatory i.e. excess reduction must be purchased.

We recommend the Collision Damage Reduction option when hiring a van or truck from USAVE to reduce your insurance excess. The CDR for our Cargo Vans, 10 Seater Minibuses and Utes is just NZ$15.00 per day and reduces the insurance excess (deductible) liability from NZ$2000.00 to NZ$500.00. For our 12 Seater Minibuses, the CDR is NZ$20.00 per day for excess reduced from NZ$2500.00 to NZ$1000.00; 10-11m3 and 15-16m3 trucks is NZ$20.00 per day for excess reduced from NZ$1500.00 to NZ$500.00; 20-21m3 and 28-30m3 trucks is NZ$20.00 per day for excess reduced from NZ$2500.00 to NZ$1000.00. In the case of a cash or Visa Debit bond full insurance is mandatory i.e. excess reduction must be purchased.

Our hire vans and trucks are provided with a full tank of fuel and must be returned with a full tank.

Our NZ$100.00 booking deposit is non-refundable in the event of cancellation but is transferable to another truck or van hire within 12 months if you advise us of your cancellation at least 24 hours before the hire date.
